International Women’s Group Celebrates Kuwait’s National & Liberation Days

10 February 2019: The International Women’s Group, in cooperation with the National Council of Culture and Arts, celebrated the Kuwait National and Liberation Days on Sunday, 10 February 2019, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Farwaniya. IWG President, Clethe Gubler, welcomed Ambassadors and guests while expressing her greetings to HH the Amir and all of Kuwait. She also thanked the Honorary President of the group, Sheikha Anwar Al Sabah, for her valuable contributions and motivations for all activities although she is currently out of Kuwait.

Guest of Honor, Jawad Bukhamseen, Founder & CEO of Bukhamseen Holding, gave a very interesting speech, welcoming all IWG members and guests, as well as expressing his pride for Kuwait and congratulating the people for its National and Liberation Days.

During the event, a beautifully informative video presentation on Kuwait was displayed taking us back to the sixties and all the way through history and through today and future plans and visions.  Moreover, an entertaining act of Kuwaiti dances showed a touch of Kuwait’s tradition while having the ladies and guests interact with joy. They also got the chance to see what a traditional Kuwaiti wedding is like. A corner set-up displayed the beautifully colorful fabric and items used during Kuwaiti weddings. A newly-wed bride reenacted the Kuwaiti ceremony (Jalwa) in the ballroom and many photographs filled with smiles were taken. Sadu House displayed live Sadu making in the ballroom where a vital piece of Kuwait heritage was explained to all those who were interested. Another surprise at the event was a live falcon; upon arrival, guests were mesmerized by the beauty of it and took lots of memorable pictures. A documentary was also shown on the importance of the Falcon to Kuwait and how it is used in the country’s official logo. Books and leaflets on Kuwait’s heritage, rich culture and traditions were brought by the National Council of Culture and Arts and given out to all attendees. A small token of gratitude was also distributed among the guests.

The event ended with appreciation awards to those who helped, little games that brought laughter and, of course, a delicious meal that included traditional Kuwaiti dishes immaculately prepared by the Crowne Plaza Chefs.
