International Women’s Group Host The Kuwaiti Group ‘The North Pole Challenge’

6 October 2019: The International Women’s Group kicked off its new year 2019/2020 in a unique event on Sunday, 6 October 2019, at the Crown Plaza Hotel Farwaniya.  In the presence of IWG’s female Ambassadors, Ambassador’s wives and a selection of prominent women within the Kuwaiti society, the IWG host the Kuwaiti Adventurer Abdullah Al Husainan and his team of 12 explorers to share their unique experiences in challenging the odds.

Mrs. Anita de Vogel, the president of IWG stood up and gave a speech and started her speech by saying how we would like for a few minutes today to remember our beloved IWG honorary president Sheikha Anwar Faisal Al-sabah that passed away last month in September 2019.

Mrs. Anita also said its very sad hearing about Sheikha Anwar passing away, and there are no words to express the deep sadness that everyone is going through, Sheikha Anwar was known for her humbleness, kindness and for her care and generosity. God rest her soul, may she rest in peace, The president continued welcoming members and guests, and thanking them for being part of this event, Mrs. Anita said we have a short film to show memories of Sheikha Anwar with International Women group (IWG).

Our program started with our Guest Mr. Abdullah Al Husainan the Team leader; he briefed the audience about the 8-day journey that the 12 adventurers made to the frozen Svalbard Island. He added that those Kuwaiti travelers loved the adventure to the Norwegian Arctic Ocean with their aim being to explore the unknown. Identifying the very sparsely inhabited and stunning in its austere beauty of nature of the divine creations enhanced the physical, intellectual and psychological capabilities as well as strengthened the values of determination, challenge and patience.

Al Husainan explained that this adventure started in April of this year with a selection of males and females that were well trained and prepared to face extreme weather challenges, whether severe cold and/or strong winds. There were many benefits from that trip; the team got a better understanding of surviving in the polar atmosphere. They learned how to maintain body temperature, deal with exceptional circumstances such as snowstorms and even how to protect themselves from polar bears and wildlife! They realized that positive thinking was the key to survival and that all is possible when you have passion for experience eagerness to show the capabilities of youngsters under any circumstances.

An informative documentary film was displayed showing the team’s many adventures including one that occurred in 2013 where the Kuwaiti flag was raised. After the presentation, Al Husainan opened a discussion session with the attendees where they asked interesting questions.

IWG members and guests ended the lovely morning with great raffle prizes and some exquisite tastes from the Hotel’s best Chefs.
